All about Puppy Vaccines

If you want to ensure your dog’s health, it is important to be aware of the vaccines that your dog should be treated with. There are many different vaccines that will stop illnesses from occurring in your puppy and keep them in a healthy condition.

In addition, vaccines will build up their immune system with antibodies, so they’re able to fight off and prevent diseases from occurring in the future. This is important if your dog comes in contact with other dogs who are sick.

All puppies should be vaccinated against certain major illnesses, such as canine distemper, rabies, bordetella, leptospirosis and Parvo virus. Usually one round of vaccination isn’t enough. Often times, the puppy will have to come back two or three weeks later, and at 16 weeks of age to be revaccinated. Additionally, rabies shots are given at three months, six months and annually after that.

It is important to vaccinate your puppy before the puppy is four months old. Consult with your veterinarian, and they will tell you which vaccinations that are required. In addition, they will give you a card to help you keep track of what vaccines the puppy has been administered, and what is left.

It’s also important that your puppy get a booster shot to strengthen their immune system.

Lastly, even if your dog is vaccinated from a disease, it does not mean they can not get the disease. Some puppies have weak immune systems that are not adequately strengthened by vaccination. If your dog becomes ill, make sure you contact your vet. Even if the dog has been vaccinated, it is important to take them in for a checkup, just to make sure everything is safe.

At the very least, you’ll have peace of mind. Or, if something is wrong with the dog then it can be treated immediately, to stop the illness from getting worse.
